Travel to the Castle Rock Recreation Center, Wal-Mart and other destinations in central Castle Rock soon will be easier thanks to the addition of two stop lights along Front Street.
Traffic signals are being installed at Front Street and Scott Road and where Front Street and the unnamed private road between Wal-Mart and Metzler Ranch Community Park meet.
Increased traffic volumes on Front Street and the two side streets led to vehicle delays and necessitated the signals' installation, said Dan Sailer, the Town's traffic engineering manager. Work on the project began in April.
An innovative design was used at both intersections to reduce the number of poles needed to hold the signals, which saved on cost. The two signals cost $244,500 - $43,000 less than if a traditional layout had been used, Sailer said.
Brighton-based contractor DKS Enterprises Inc. must complete the project by June 11 but is ahead of schedule, and the lights should be operational during May, he said.
