FEEDBACK NEEDED FOR A NEW CASTLE ROCK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
There is a movement among concerned parents in Castle Rock, to create more educational opportunities for elementary-aged children. If you have tried to obtain a spot in either American Academy charter, Academy Charter, Renaissance, or DC Montessori, you know the chances of your child hitting the "lottery" are slim to none.Open enrollment options at the traditional Castle Rock schools are non-existent, due to overcrowding. If your child has a particular talent, or interest there is little room for focused learning in the traditional school setting. Many of you are paying tuition, and are driving long distances to provide your children with a quality education,to be on a traditional-non-track calendar, or simply to be on the same calendar.
Douglas County school officials have recognized the need for more specialized learning opportunities for its students, and are looking for input from the Castle Rockparents to address this need. An "options" school or "magnet" can be created that would serve the entire area, with a focused content such as math/science, foreign language, art, or athletics.
Lone Tree Elementary is an example of a magnet school that was created to meet a specific academic need, and draw students back into the DC school system that were going elsewhere for their education. The movement to create other school options must come from the parents/community, therefore, an e-mail site has been created to obtain a survey, send feedback, and ask questions, etc.
If you would like to see another school option for your elementary aged children, please take a moment to e-mail us at
CRSchoolOption@comcast.net, and ask for a copy of the survey. The results of the survey must be presented to the school board byJUNE 1st, so our request can be considered in upcoming planning sessions.
