Public invited to watch senior golf tournament at Castle Rock course
Locals are invited to enjoy springtime outside by taking in a senior golf tournament being held next week at Castle Rock's Red Hawk Ridge Golf Course.
This is the second time in three years that the Colorado Golf Association Senior Match Play Championship is being played at the course. The statewide tournament typically is held at a different course each year and is open to Colorado residents age 50 and older.
"The event is a chance for local residents to come see some of Colorado's top senior amateur players," said Travis Schenk, general manager of Red Hawk Ridge.
Play begins at 7 a.m. Monday, May 12, when 120 players will tee off to qualify for 64 spots. Play generally starts at 7 a.m. daily and runs through late afternoon. The tournament will conclude Friday, May 16, with a 36-hole championship match.
Red Hawk Ridge, which has a 6,942-yard layout, was designed by award-winning golf course architect Jim Engh. The course features rolling terrain, abundant wildlife and dramatic vistas.
There is no charge to attend the tournament. While at the course, spectators and players also can enjoy meals at the Clubhouse Grill, which opens at 11 a.m. and offers daily specials along with great views.
Red Hawk Ridge is at 2156 Red Hawk Ridge Drive. Visit
