Town seeks input to name new road
Contributed by: Town of Castle Rock on 5/9/2008

By the end of next year, a road will connect from the Plum Creek Parkway interchange with Interstate 25 to Coachline Road, which runs southeast from Meadows Boulevard.

Construction on the new road segment that will connect the areas is expected to begin in spring 2009 as part of the Town of Castle Rock's Southwest Arterial Connection Road project.

Before then, the Town needs to decide on a name for the road - including the part currently known as Coachline Road - and it's asking for residents' help.

The Town is accepting name nominations for the road segment from the interchange to Meadows Boulevard through 5 p.m. on Friday, June 6. Nomination forms are available on the Town Clerk's Office page at www.CRgov.com or by calling Town Clerk Sally Misare at 303-660-1367.

The maximum length preferred for street names is 12 characters including spaces but excluding the street suffix, such as Road or Parkway. However, Town Council may consider longer names.

Some council members at the May 6 Council meeting expressed interest in naming the segment Plum Creek Parkway so the entire stretch from Ridge Road to Meadows Boulevard - including the coming Southeast Arterial Connection Road - would have the same name. Giving the entire stretch the same name would help avoid confusion and the need to list two different street names at the interchange.

According to Town Code, no street names shall be used that will duplicate or be confused with the names of existing streets.

All nominations will be considered by a naming committee, which then will forward recommendations to the Public Works Commission. The Commission's recommendation then will go before Town Council for final approval.

The Town seeks to choose names for facilities that advance the Town's vision of fostering a sense of community. Town facility names also should heighten awareness of Town history, celebrate the natural environment and call attention to points of pride in the community.

I like "Coachline"! It suggests stagecoach history. Is it?
