Saturday, June 7, is National Trails Day, and the Town is celebrating by hosting a 5k run/walk and bike rides on Castle Rock's newest trails.
Expert, intermediate and beginner mountain bike riders all can join in rides at the soft-surface trails in Ridgeline Open Space. Expert-level rides begin at 8 a.m., intermediate-level at 9 a.m. and beginner-level at 10 a.m.
The new trails also will be dedicated that day at 9:45 a.m., right before the final wave begins. Attendees should park along Clear Sky Way and Avery Way in The Meadows.
If a run or walk is more your speed, you'll want to head to Rhyolite Regional Park, where participants in a 5k run will travel through the new park and Quarry Mesa along Madge Trail. The course features concrete and natural-surface trails.
The all-ages fun run begins at 8 a.m. The park is at 1701 Crystal Valley Parkway.
Free T-shirts courtesy of sponsors 6202 Cycling Club, Castle Rock Bicycle Co., First Bank, Oakwood Homes and The Meadows will be given to the first 50 attendees at each event. Oakwood Homes and The Meadows will provide refreshments for bike ride participants.
Both the run and the bike rides are free. Registration is required by June 6 and can be completed at CRgov.com/recreation, by calling 303-660-1036 or in person at the Castle Rock Recreation Center.
Of course, people in Castle Rock don't need to attend these events to mark National Trails Day. Just head out to any of the Town's trails and take in the amazing scenery - and maybe even get some exercise.
