Contributed by: Deputy Cocha Heyden-PIO on 5/16/2008

On May 15, 2008, Douglas County Sheriff David A. Weaver and other guests honored the men and women who have given their lives in the line of duty, and those that continue to serve, during the 2008 National Law Enforcement Memorial Award Ceremony.

Two community service awards were given in honor of fallen officer Deputy Ron King of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, whose law enforcement career (Douglas County and State of Colorado) demonstrated his never-ending passion and dedication to the service and protection of the citizens of Douglas County and the State of Colorado. The following recipients were presented with the Ron King Memorial Award:

Specialist Robert Britton received the employee community service award for his lengthy participation in hunter safety courses for kids, and his lifelong connection to programs like 4H, Future Farmers of America, and the Little Britches Rodeo.

Ed Yeats (Douglas County citizen) received the citizen community service award for his constant participation in and creation of positive alternative programs for the youth of Roxborough.

These two have demonstrated an exceptional interest and dedication to the youth of Douglas County.

The Awards ceremony was held at the Robert A Christensen Justice Center, jury assembly room.

The day was made even more memorable by having the Castle View High School Jazz Choir "Red Hot" sing at the ceremony.
