Soaring Hawk wins Tri the Rock Challenge
Contributed by: Town of Castle Rock on 5/22/2008

Castle Rock's Soaring Hawk Elementary School continued its sweep of the Town's Tri the Rock Challenge, beating all other schools' attendance in the youth triathlon for the third year straight.

The 43 Soaring Hawk participants will receive a party at the Town's leisure pool and will get to display the traveling trophy at their school until the next Tri the Rock in 2009.

Schools of all Tri the Rock participants benefited by their involvement, with $10 of each $30 entry fee going directly to the physical education program at the triathlete's school.

This year's Tri the Rock - held Sunday, May 18, at Butterfield Crossing Park and Pool - was the most successful yet, with 311 participants. Last year saw 265 racers and the inaugural 2006 race brought out 235 youth triathletes.

This year's strong turnout means that more than $3,100 was raised for local schools' physical education programs. The additional proceeds benefit youth sports programs in Town.

Every youngster who participated received a prize, but the top three finishing boys and girls in each age group were given special awards. They were:
