Town staff introduced to Town Council on June 24 the draft of the ordinance that creates regulations for commercial/industrial development that would minimize its impact on adjacent residential property.
During the meeting, several people addressed Town Council to relay their concerns about the proposed language of the ordinance. Deciding that more time was needed to evaluate these concerns, Town Council voted to continue the hearing to Tuesday, July 8.
Town Council approved April 1 a temporary suspension of new commercial and industrial land use applications - during the study period - in areas where land zoned for residential and nonresidential abut. These areas account for about 10 percent of the land zoned for commercial and industrial development in the Town. The purposes of the study are to help protect property values and to ensure the high-quality development and quality of life that earned Castle Rock the designation of a Top 10 town for families by Family Circle magazine.
Since the time the suspension was approved and the study initiated, the Town has had two community meetings to get input from the public on what they would like to see in a possible ordinance placing regulations on nonresidential zoning abutting neighborhoods. The public provided great insight as well as has the Design Team, which includes staff, design professionals serving on Town boards and commissions and members of the development community. The draft ordinance also has been presented June 12 to the Town's Planning Commission.
The public is welcome to provide additional comments on the proposed ordinance by attending the July 8 meeting, scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers at Town Hall, 100 N. Wilcox St.
