The bright yellow banners lining the lampposts serve as a signal: You're in Downtown.
But why Be Downtown?
It's where things happen in Castle Rock.
People come Downtown to shop, eat and do business.
Downtown's also a place to play and is home to events such as the Starlight Summer Movies,
Dancing Under the Stars, ArtFest and the Farmers Fresh Market, just to name a few.
The banners installed this week in the Downtown core - generally along Wilcox and Perry streets between Second and Sixth streets - are symbols of Downtown's vibrancy and the
fun people can have here.
They'll hang until the week of Labor Day, when banners featuring works by local artists will
go up in their place as part of the Town's Art on the Street program.
There's still time for residents to help decide which artworks will be made into banners.
Twenty pieces of art are on display at the Philip S. Miller Library, 100 S. Wilcox St. People can vote for their favorite two pieces of art at the library and the July 26 Farmers Market at Festival Park, Second and Perry streets.
The eight works that garner the most votes by July 26 will be made into banners. The first four banners will hang from Labor Day through spring, when the remaining pieces will be featured.
The banners are expected to add to our historic Downtown's small-town charm and beauty.
Artist banner programs have been successful in other communities, including Vancouver, British Columbia, Ithaca, N.Y., and Pacific Beach, Calif.
