Artfest to include shuttle to/from Fairgrounds
Contributed by: Town of Castle Rock on 8/28/2008

Thousands of people are expected to flock to Downtown Castle Rock Sept. 6 and 7 for the Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce's 19 th annual Artfest.

Those people will need somewhere to park, which is why the Town has been working with the Chamber on a parking plan.

As part of that plan, one of the Town's buses and its trolley will provide shuttle service between a parking lot at the Douglas County Fairgrounds and the Artfest site in Downtown Castle Rock.

Artfest attendees who want to take advantage of the free shuttle should park in Lot 4 at the Fairgrounds and board the shuttle. The shuttle will transport people between the lot and the corner of South and Wilcox streets, just steps from Artfest at Town Hall, the Philip S. Miller Library and the side streets and lots in between.

Parking also will be available in the Downtown Parking Garage, Third and Jerry streets, and along Downtown streets. The parking lots at Town Hall and the library will be closed for the event. So will both side streets between Town Hall and the library.

Artfest will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7. The free parking shuttle will run between those times both days.

The event will feature a variety of art for sale by more than 185 artists. Live music also will help enliven the streets.

Food and drinks will be available for sale, and strolling entertainers including puppeteers, clowns and storytellers will appeal to children. There also will be an Imagination Zone with interactive art and cultural activities for children.

"Artfest not only promotes the community, but it is a significant revenue-generating source for the local economy, both of which are major focuses of the Chamber," said Chamber President and CEO Pam Ridler. "It is truly a show not to be missed."

Admission is $5. Those age 60 and over will be admitted for $3, and children under age 12 will be admitted free.
