A total of $793,861 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds will be distributed among nine organizations that provide services to benefit low- to moderate-income families in Douglas County thanks to the approval of Douglas County Commissioners and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
The Douglas County CDBG 2008 Annual Action Plan established that funds be allocated for the following projects:
· $100,000 to Brothers Redevelopment, Inc. for land acquisition in Parker to provide affordable rental housing for seniors
· $200,000 to the Douglas County Housing Partnership to provide down payment assistance for affordable homeownership
· $35,000 to the Douglas/Elbert Task Force for emergency housing and overnight assistance
· $200,000 to the Women's Crisis and Family Outreach Center for facility expansion
· $5,950 to the Town of Parker to conduct two neighborhood clean-ups
· $13,800 to Audio Information Network of Colorado (AINColorado) to provide audio information to seniors and the disabled
· $45,000 to the Douglas County Youth Initiative for an additional facilitator to assist additional families through the WrapArounD program
· $19,000 to the Castle Rock Senior Center for a volunteer coordinator to help increase senior services
· $335,806 to the Sedalia Water and Sanitation District for water and sewer improvements
Last year's CDBG 2007 Annual Action Plan awarded $797,176 in CDBG funds to local organizations.
The CDBG is a grant program of the U.S. Department of HUD that is administered by the Douglas County Community Development Department. The program provides funding in support of community needs throughout Douglas County. The grant amount received by the County is based on population size and the number of low- to moderate-income persons residing in the County.
