Volunteers for the event will have fun while doing a good deed - removing trash and debris from Sellars Gulch in Downtown Castle Rock.
The annual event - sponsored by the Town, Douglas County, the Douglas County Libraries, the Castle Rock Rotary clubs and the Castle Pines Metropolitan District - is important to keeping our waterways clean.
"Creek cleanup yields a very tangible benefit. When the drainage is clean, it's immediately visible and makes the creekside a much nicer place to run, bike or walk," said Dan Danser of the Castle Rock Rotary. "It's an opportunity to meet and work with like-minded volunteers and also Town employees involved in parks and recreation. Most important, I think, it puts you in a place that, although right in the middle of Castle Rock, most people never see or think about. We have less surface water than most places in the world, and it's worth knowing where it is and what it's like in our own community."
Volunteers of all ages are welcome at Winter Walk. Work gloves and trash bags will be provided.
"I am always amazed at how much trash our volunteers collect at this event," said David Van Dellen, the Town's stormwater project manager. "There is always work to be done in keeping our creeks free and clear of litter. Every piece of trash collected is one less threat to the fish, wildlife and public who rely on natural, clean waterways."
The cleanup will last from 9 to 11 a.m., and refreshments will be served at Festival Park between 11 and 11:30 a.m.
There's no need to pre-register - simply show up at the park dressed to work.
