Rotary International and Local Castle Rock Rotary Clubs have led the way in eradicating polio from the face of the earth. Polio is now only found in a few remote locations in Africa and Asia. To bring attention to Rotary's efforts in eradicating polio and to Polio Awareness Day on October 24, Castle Rock High Noon Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of Castle Rock are sponsoring a crutch drive for Crutches4Africa. This effort will help hundreds, perhaps thousands of people who have contracted polio or other disabling diseases or who have sustained injuries.
Rotarian Dave Talbot founded Crutches4Africa after visiting Africa and seeing first hand the tremendous need people had. Dave contracted polio as a child and has a lot of empathy for folks who need mobility devices. Dave travels frequently to Africa and, while on crutches himself, travels to remote areas in Africa to hand out the crutches he has collected from the US.
