Council: Don't come knockin'
Contributed by: Joseph Kirchmer/YourHub.com on 3/5/2008

Town councilors are working out an ordinance that would place restrictions on door-to-door solicitors.

Council discussed some possible methods for curbing solicitation at its Feb. 26 meeting, which included implementing a "no knock" list for residents who don't want to be bothered by door-to-door solicitors.

Other ideas included restrictions on when solicitors would be allowed to knock on residents' doors, most likely from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Councilman Mitch Dulleck said council should consider making 7 p.m. the cutoff time for solicitors and wants tough fines put in place for those who break the time restrictions.

"I would make it so anyone would think twice about breaking that law," he said.

Council voted 6-0 to allow staff to draw up an ordinance.
