It's expected that the $110,000 cap in Castle Rock shopping rewards authorized under the Rock Your Dollar program will be reached the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 30.
Receipt redemption for purchases made during September originally was set to continue through Friday, Oct. 2. Town Council members have called an emergency meeting for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, at which they will vote whether to increase the $110,000 limit so consumers can continue redeeming their receipts - and earning rewards.
"It is an extremely successful program," said Mayor Randy Reed. "It's hitting on all four cylinders I wanted to hit on: 1) Stimulating the local economy; 2) Helping people feel better about the economy; 3) Helping residents and nonresidents rediscover all of Castle Rock's wonderful merchants; and 4) Stimulating sales tax dollars."
Reed said many people thought the program would continue through Sept. 30 regardless of how much in rewards had been given away. "I want to fulfill that obligation," he said of his reasoning for calling Wednesday's emergency meeting.
Under Rock Your Dollar, consumers earn a $50 Castle Rock Cash Card for each $500 in qualifying taxable purchases made at Castle Rock-licensed businesses within the Town's corporate limits during September. Each person age 18 and up is eligible for up to two Cash Cards for spending $1,000 or more on eligible items.
Examples of ineligible items include groceries, gasoline, alcohol, tobacco, prescriptions and nontaxable services. A more comprehensive list of what does and doesn't qualify is available on the Rock Your Dollar section at CRgov.com or at the redemption booth at Town Hall, 100 N. Wilcox St. If Council authorizes additional funding, the booth will be open 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Sept. 30-Oct. 2. Individuals redeeming receipts for a Cash Card must be present at the booth and show a government-issued ID.
Castle Rock Cash Cards can be used anywhere in Castle Rock's corporate limits where major credit cards are accepted, including on items such as groceries and alcohol and on nontaxable services. The Town cannot guarantee businesses will honor the cards and will not replace lost or stolen cards. The cards expire Oct. 31.
