Potters urged to help domestic violence victims
Contributed by: Chad Reiling on 1/12/2007

Experienced potters are invited to come to the Castle Rock Recreation Center to create bowls for the Women's Crisis and Family Outreach Center's "7th Annual Empty Bowl Event." The WCFOC has supplied the Rec Center Pottery Department with more than 1,000 pounds of clay and a variety of glazes for the production of over 800 bowls.

Potters can work on their creations during open lab times, which are:

-Saturday, Jan. 13 & Sunday, Jan. 14, 10:00 am-4:00 pm

-Saturday, Jan. 27 & Sunday, Jan. 28, 10:00 am-4:00 pm

-Saturday, Feb. 10 & Sunday, Feb. 11, 10:00 am-4:00 pm

-Mondays, Jan. 8-Feb. 19, 11:30 am-2:30 pm

-Wednesdays, Jan. 10-31, 6:30-9:30 pm

Artists are encouraged to start making pottery early, because the entire process usually takes approximately three to four weeks to complete. Any potter donating a minimum of 15 acceptable bowls will be admitted to the event at no charge.

The Town of Castle Rock's Special Interest Department is again a proud sponsor of this event and is also responsible for collecting additional bowls from other area potters.

"Our event has continued to grow each year. We started with a handful of potters and now over 60 potters are involved. We look forward to seeing the returning potters as well as welcoming potters new to 'Empty Bowl.' It's an event and time like no other for potters in our community" said Karan Chandler, pottery instructor at the Rec Center and WCFOC Volunteer.

This year's event will be held on Friday, Mar. 9, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Douglas County Fairgrounds Events Center. For more information on helping or about this event, please contact Karan at 303-660-8106. For tickets to the event, call 303-688-1094.
