On March 14, Colorado Avalanche right wing
Scott Parker parted with a longtime friend -- his beard.
Parker has had his signature goatee since he was a teenager, and his father,
Roger, shaved it clean off, along with the hair atop his head, at the Robert A. Christensen Justice Center, 4000 Justice Way, in Castle Rock, to kick off the Douglas County Sheriff's Office's second annual head shaving event for the St. Baldrick's Foundation.
But Parker was not the only one to receive a haircut that day -- Sheriff
David Weaver, other deputies and local law enforcement personnel and Douglas County residents young and old shaved their heads to help St. Baldrick's mission to raise money and awareness for childhood cancer research.
Participants received sponsors to part with their hair on stage during the event. Deputy
Cocha Heyden, DCSO public information officer, said the event raised $60,000 for St. Baldrick's.
This year's event was held in honor of
Isabella Ackerson, the daughter of Douglas County Sheriff's Office Investigator
Niles Ackerson. Isabella lost her battle with infant ALL/MLL Leukemia on Dec. 27, 2006. Isabella was 6 months old.
The event also honored
Chase Kluth, son of Littleton Police Department's Sgt.
Arlan Kluth and Douglas County Sheriff's Office Chief
Holly Nicholson-Kluth. Chase lost his battle with cancer in 2002 when he was 15 years old.
