The Castle Rock High Noon Rotary Club wanted to raise money to help fund the expansion of the children's room at the Philip S. Miller Library in Castle Rock. The library had received a large donation for the children's room expansion from a private donor, but more money was needed to complete the project.
Rotarian, Erik Taylor came up with a very creative way to raise the money. Erik contacted Derek Handley at Water2Wine in Centennial, to create a personalized wine with a custom label which might appeal to the citizens of the Town of Castle Rock. The beautiful image of the castle rock on the label was created by Castle Rock artist, Dix Morris.
One summer evening, members of the Castle Rock High Noon Rotary met at the Centennial location for Water2Wine. ( http://water2wine.com/denver/)
Water2wine is an actual wine-making operation and the Rotary club was able to select wines from more than 100 choices from 13 countries. It made for a festive night as the group divided tasks and worked to fill the bottles, cork them and then add the beautiful labels depicting the castle rock while they snacked on delicious cheese and crackers.
On the final night of the One Book, One Castle Rock initiative the Castle Rock High Noon Rotary club offered these beautiful bottles of wine for a donation. Patrons attending the author event with Kent Haruf scooped up the beautiful wine bottles. Enough money was donated to allow for a $725 donation to the library.
At a recent Rotary meeting, Erik Taylor handed a check for $725 to Sheila Kerber, Manager of the Philip S. Miller Library in Castle Rock. Rotary International'sDistrict Governor, Mike Oldham, and President of the High Noon Rotary Club, Lin Miklas, were present for the presentation.
The Philip S. Miller Library expressed deep appreciation for the donation. Generous donations like this one will allow for an expansion of the children's department in 2010. It is gratifying to know that the little people, who check out 40% of all books borrowed from the PSM library, will soon have a nice great space to enjoy.
