Meet your candidate: John Mark Lawler
Contributed by: John Mark Lawler on 3/12/2008

John Mark Lawler is one of three candidates for Castle Rock Town Council in District 4. YourHub.com asked him to respond to a questionnaire about his interests and local issues.

My name: John Mark Lawler (known as Mark)

Age: 55

My family: Dorian (wife) Shad, Josh, Alia (children) Ashley, Adrian, Ryan (grandchildren)

Education: Ball State University (3 years) Political Science & History major; Graduate, Indiana Law Enforcement academy

What I do: Retired from Public office 2004, volunteer at my church

My favorite place in town to hang out: The many festivals downtown and the hills next to my home

What I like most about living here: The feel of a small mountain town without being deep into the mountains. You can generally find about anything you need here.

My interests and hobbies: cooking, politics and local government

My favorite thing to cook: pecan sticky buns

People who inspired me (and how): Grandfather, If you work hard enough, you will succeed

How I have contributed to the community: I advocate the support of community, local business and festival activities.

The biggest issues facing Castle Rock now: Maintaining consistent residential and business growth. Castle Rock is a vibrant community and is poised for additional growth. Our approach needs to be multi-dimensional. In assessing future water supplies and conservation today, growth and investment in infrastructure, art and cultural investment, the best in public safety, park development and the preservation of open space at a greater level than surrounding communities. We must be inclusive of our citizens, school officials and the business community in sharing our plans for investment, growth and encourage input from their perspective to develop a comprehensive plan for growth. This will set the tone for the development of a marketing plan to promote Castle Rock as an attractive place to live, work and play.

Why I am running: I believe in Castle Rock and I will utilize my skills and knowledge of serving as a City Mayor for 16 years as my small contribution to help this community move into the future.
