Meet your candidate: Robert J. Murray
Contributed by: Robert J. Murray on 3/13/2008

Robert J. Murray is a candidate for Castle Rock Town Council in District 7. YourHub.com asked him to respond to a questionnaire about his interests and local issues.

My name: Robert J. Murray

Age: 40

My family: Me, and my dogs and kitten. My mother lives in Littleton, as well as my nephew and my sister. I have another sister who lives in Colorado Springs with her husband, and my niece. All of my mother's family lives in and around Denver, so we get to see all of them a few times a year.

Education: Bachelor's Degree, Information Technology, Master's Degree, Computer Science

What I do: Network Engineer at Sprint Nextel

My favorite place in town to hang out: Applebee's and Chili's during football season

What I like most about living here: Small town feel that has everything you need without going to Denver or Colorado Springs to run errands

My interests and hobbies: Traveling, working out, fixing old computers

My favorite thing to cook: Chili

People who inspired me (and how): My mother because she has always supported me in any endeavor I have involved myself with. To buying my first house (scary), to enlisting in the Air Force at the young age of 19, to supporting my Air Force career which included supporting Desert Storm and Desert Shield, all in all the Air Force made me grow up and mature, take responsibility for myself and instilling pride, dedication and discipline.

How I have contributed to the community: I have lived in Castle Rock since 2002 and have been very busy with work and fixing up my house (I have added a deck and I had the basement finished in 2005) painting and all of that entails. I will in a few weeks be finished with my education (Masters Degree, I did think about getting a PhD at one point). I enjoy Castle Rock, the views, scenery, the Outlet Mall. I have hiked up the Rock a few times, that was fun. I take my dogs to Castlewood Canyon every year; I loved the Castlewood Canyon Dam story, quite interesting. I enjoy going to the Farmers Market. So, as far as contributing to the community, I believe that I support the community, and that is so true especially after five years, and this year will be six.

The biggest issues facing Castle Rock now: Water conservation, traffic congestion, I-25 expansion, Smartgrowth Initiatives, HOA compliance, snow removal, controlled growth.

Why I am running: I will finish my Masters Degree in March, and graduation is March 22. That will close a great and challenging chapter in my educational goals. So I believe I can now fully commit and dedicate myself to the council and the town. I am a native of Colorado, and getting involved in public service has been a life long ambition for me. There is no better way of giving back to the community then to serve the town and residents of Castle Rock.
