We need the Douglas County Libraries mill levy
Contributed by: Bryan Lucas on 8/21/2008

If you have ever used the library you should support this mill levy.

The Douglas County Libraries (DCL) provides a service to ALL residents of Douglas County, regardless of their location or income.

I look at The Douglas County Libraries as a collective warehouse holding all DCL's books, movies, CDs and other materials. The Parker branch is my connection to that warehouse just as the Highlands Ranch branch is for residents of Highlands Ranch. When I request a book from the DCL website I don't care which branch it's stored in. I just want to pick it up at my branch.

Do residents outside of Parker, Lone Tree, or Castle Pines realize that residents of those three communities helped to pay for THEIR libraries? Do they also realize that only a fraction of the library's materials are held at THEIR library? If, as a resident of Douglas County outside of these three communities, you don't think that you will benefit from these new libraries you are mistaken.

Building new, larger libraries will not only improve those communities' access to the collective DCL warehouse, but it will increase the size of the warehouse for all Douglas County residents. Just because your branch isn't improved, doesn't mean you don't benefit.

I hope the next time you can't get an item because the library either has no copies or there is a long waiting list you think about the mill levy.
