The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is planning to switch northbound traffic to a new alignment and close the northbound off-ramp to Wolfensburger Road on Sunday, July 15, as part of the Interstate 25 widening and reconstruction project through Castle Rock.
The switch originally was scheduled for Thursday, July 12.
Weather permitting, northbound traffic will be moved onto the new concrete pavement, next to the current southbound lanes, beginning at 8 p.m.
During the overnight transition, northbound traffic will be reduced to one lane and the speed limit lowered to 45 mph so delays are possible. The transition is scheduled to be completed by 5 a.m. on Monday, July 16.
In addition, CDOT will close the ramp from northbound I-25 to Wolfensberger Road that night, and it will remain out-of-service until December 2007 for reconstruction. Detour exits include Wilcox Street/Plum Creek Parkway (Exit 181) and Meadows Parkway/Founders Parkway (Exit 184).
A 55-mph speed limit will be in effect for northbound and southbound following the traffic switch. Restrictions remain in place for northbound I-25, with vehicles wider than 11 feet and higher than 14 feet, 6 inches not allowed through the work zone.
The widening of northbound and southbound I-25 from two to three lanes between Founders/Meadows Parkway and the Fifth Street Bridge (2.8 miles) is scheduled to be completed in spring 2008.
