The Castle Rock Senior Center
, located at 2323 North Woodlands Blvd., got a major upgrade to its transportation fleet last month when it added four new 2007 PT Cruisers.
The swanky new cars, which replaced three aging and often unreliable vehicles, were paid for by contributions from the town of Castle Rock, Douglas County and private donations.
The four new vehicles, including the senior center's van, average several hundred miles per week, according to senior center assistant director
Fred Slick
.
The cars shuttle mobility-challenged seniors around to places they need to go, such as the grocery store, the hospital and others places around the metro area. It's all free of charge.
John Glendenning
, of Castle Rock, has been a volunteer driver for the past 12 years. He also helps out in the local Meals on Wheels program, as well as other volunteer programs in the town.
"I have a good time," he said.
Need a ride? Call 303-688-9498 for more information. Drivers typically need a 24 to 48 hour notice ahead of time.
