Lane closures on Plum Creek Parkway for two weeks

Lane closures on Plum Creek Parkway to last two weeks

The section of Plum Creek Parkway near the Perry Street intersection will be reduced to one lane traveling each direction for about two weeks.

The closure is expected to begin Monday, Nov. 19, and continue through the end of the month.

"We need to complete this road work while the weather is still workable for the repair," said Matt Hayes, a Town project manager.

The purpose of the project is to replace the pressure-reducing valve in the waterline and move the valve out of the Plum Creek Parkway right of way. Originally, the valve was located outside of the roadway, but has been in the intersection since Plum Creek Parkway was widened to four lanes in 2003. This valve is used to supply additional water to the downtown area during the high summer demands.

In addition to a more appropriate location, this project provides for a new valve that is automated, allowing Utilities Department operators to monitor the volume and pressure of water passing through the valve and to adjust valve settings remotely.

Construction should be completed by the end of November and the new valve should be on-line by the end of the year.

Angela Copeland is community relations manager for the Town of Castle Rock.
