CORRECTION: A story in the April 3 print edition states the HOA for Castle Pines Village states CPV supports both extensions. They support only one of the two extensions.
And then there were two.
The Town of Castle Rock and Douglas County officials say a plan to construct a road out of The Meadows subdivision to help improve access to U.S. 85 and Interstate 25 has been narrowed down to two alternatives. The two options --which would affect Atrium Drive or North Castlegate Drive -- will be presented at a public open house April 23.
The town wants an additional interchange out of The Meadows to help ease traffic congestion at the Meadows/Founders interchange off I-25.
After years of setbacks and wrangling over costs and traffic concerns, it appears the project is moving forward, according to
Bob Goebel
, public works director for the Town of Castle Rock.
Several entities affected by the proposed road are now at the table and ready to discuss cost-sharing proposals, he said. Those entities include Castle Rock Development Company, which is overseeing development of The Meadows subdivision; Castle Pines Homes Association, the HOA for Castle Pines Village; Dev-Vic Corporation, which owns land adjacent to The Outlets at Castle Rock; and the Town of Castle Rock and Douglas County.
"It looks like this is coming together," Goebel said. "I think there is a desire for everyone involved to get this all done at once and not in several different segments."
The HOA for Castle Pines Village was unhappy with some of the proposals for an extension to U.S. 85 because they felt motorists would cut through a local road - Happy Canyon Road - en route to I-25. But Goebel said HOA officials with the gated community have no objections to the two current options.
In addition to working out cost-sharing agreements, the town also is in the process of finalizing environmental assessments associated with the proposals, Goebel said.
Costs and details of the two plans will be discussed in detail at the open house.
