Bison in the mist
Contributed by: Michael Rule on 2/16/2007

I was driving to Franktown yesterday on Hwy 83, near Jones Road heading north.

Patches of heavy fog alternated with clearer moments. As I drove along I kept an eye out for the bison on the Buffalo Ranch near my home. Suddenly, there they were, appearing out of the mist.

I stopped and took this photograph to share the moment.

Sometimes I wonder what it must have been like to see herds numbering in the 100's of thousands of these amazing animals.

Near Franktown is a place where the Native Americans would run the buffalo off the cliffs. I thought about that the rest of my drive into town.

This makes me think of "Dances With Wolves," except I don't see Kevin Costner anywhere. Tsk tsk. Great photo!

Cool pic! I drive to Castle Rock from Larkspur and we have a Buffalo Ranch here too. I have always wanted to take a picture.
