Some August wildflowers
Contributed by: Michael Rule on 8/10/2007

Every year at this time a patch of Tall Marsh Suflowers begins to bloom not too far from our place. A member of the helianthus family they, along with asters and gayfeathers, announce the beginning of the end, so to speak. Summer is on it's downward run, and the late season flowers appear.

Here are a few photos of this sunflower, along with a V iolet Aster found in the same area. Also included is an unknown (to me!) bloom found in the same wet, marshy area. It kind of resembles a cross between Bee Balm and Liatrus(or gayfeather). Any ideas what it is?
