Skaters abound at Metzler Ranch Park
Contributed by: Joseph Kirchmer/YourHub.com on 7/13/2007

The one place in Castle Rock that you can always find people (besides Chick-fil-A) is the Metzler Ranch skate park.

Skateboarders, BMXers and rollerbladers flock to this park like moths to the flame during the summer months. July 12 was a perfect day for hanging out at the park-- it was cool and cloudy.

On a separate note, it seems like every time I head down to Castle Rock, there is a storm threatening. But I digress.

The skate park is one of the best outlets for teens suffering from boredom. It was a good idea to build it but I still think the town should build more of these types of venues for kids.

You're right, Joey. It's so hard for kids to find a place to hang and do something they enjoy without getting yelled at about it. Young children should be supervised in that kind of a setting but teens tend to act like teens for some reason and that will never change. I too would like to see the town do more to provide venues for everyone to enjoy.

My younger son loves the skate park. Most of the time the young people there are well mannered and considerate. However, I have encountered young teens there smoking cigarettes, making out and using the foulest of language. I wish more parents would stay for monitoring purposes rather than drop kids off and pick them up later. The enviornment at the skate park is not always ideal for younger, unsupervised children.
