Volunteers helped spruce up East Plum Creek in Castle Rock on May 16, picking up old bottles, debris and litter at the town's sixth annual Spring Up the Creek event.
The cleanup, which was rescheduled from May 2, helps keep the area near the newly connected bikeways looking good for bicyclists, joggers and walkers.
"More and more people are getting to enjoy nature at their fingertips," said Castle Rock Stormwater Project Manager
David Van Dellen. "We are excited about this as it allows us to clean areas never before focused on for trash removal. I am so impressed with the interest this event has stirred throughout the county."
Several volunteer teams were shuttled this year on CATCO buses to sections of the creek further downstream in dire need of the kind of attention "stream teams" have devoted to the more central areas of Sellars Gulch and East Plum Creek.
