Walkers, bikers, birds hit the trail

National Trails Day at the new East Plum Creek Trail in Castle Rock June 6 was all about outdoor education.

Bikers and walkers hit the gravel after a ribbon-cutting dedication marking the grand opening of the trail, which took place at the trailhead. Greeting Trail Day participants along the three-mile stretch was a Bald Eagle, Peregrine Falcon and Great Horned Owl.

After the walk, which was part of a nationwide National Trails Day celebration, there was a ceremony at Festival Park honoring Vision Cornerstone Tribute recipients Lionel and Starr Oberlin and Kent Brandebery. The Castle Rock Band also performed.
