Service Before Self - Castle Rock High Noon Rotary
Contributed by: Kim Castellano on 10/5/2006

For many years, members of the Castle Rock High Noon Rotary Foundation, a 501(C)(3) organization, have spent their "free" time delivering dictionaries to third graders, raising funds for the Woman's Crisis Center, helping to repair and upgrade water systems in Zimbabwe, and providing scholarships to deserving seniors. In Castle Rock, they are famous for their spring time Ducky Race and Street Festival that raises funds for the Woman's Crisis Center, Task Force and Senior Center. Most recently the Castle Rock High Noon Rotary Foundation awarded three grants to programs that directly impact Castle Rock, Douglas County and low income countries.

The first grant was provided to Castle Rock Players; a non-profit organization dedicated to providing quality theater experiences to the community. They annually produce several productions, including family productions, youth productions, and theater classes for youth.

Our second grant was for Project Lifesaver. Project Lifesaver is a Douglas County-wide project partnering Douglas County Adult Services, emergency response agencies and Rotary. Frequently alzheimer or mentally challenged adults and children wonder from their caregivers. This project helps pay for the cost of a transmitter used to locate these missing at risk patients within minutes, rather than hours or days, significantly reducing the risk of harm or death to the patient.

The third grant was for Face the Challenge; a non-profit organization that provides free facial surgeries and medical care for people living in the least developed low-income countries of the world. These countries have the lowest life expectency, the highest infant mortality and population growth rate, the lowest GNP, the lowest access to healthcare, and the lowest number of healthcare workers.

Castle Rock High Noon Rotary Foundation is an organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the world.

Be part of the greatest nonprofit dedicated to service before self. Please join the Castle Rock High Noon Rotary Club for lunch every Thursday at noon at the Philip S. Miller Library.
