The Douglas County High School Cheerleaders will help feed the hungry this holiday season while participating in the Castle Rock Starlighting ceremonies on Saturday, Nov. 18. The cheerleaders will do cheers and collect money handing out "thank you" candy-canes for all who give.
The Huskie Cheer Booster club met in September and decided that it had already earned the money necessary for the 2006-2007 school year but still wanted to be able to participate in the holiday season as cheerleaders amid the already demanding practice, competition schedule, and cheerleading schedule.
Many ideas were kicked around, but feeding the area's hungry won out and the Douglas County Task Force located at 5th and Jerry was selected with a goal of filling the shelves in the food pantry.
Watch for the cheerleaders at the corner of 3rd and Perry Streets in downtown Castle Rock doing cheers and holding "donation megaphones". Come with a few extra dollars and may your hearts be warmed as you help the cheerleaders fill those shelves.
For a connection to Starlighting festivities which include Santa, fireworks, carolers, and the lighting of the star ontop Castle Rock, go to

If you would like to make a donation but will not be attending the Starlighting ceremony, please contact

I am very excited that the Douglas County High School Cheerleaders are participating in such a worthy cause. I hope they raise lots of money for the Food Bank.
