The High Plains Rider normally knows
J. Gary Kuntz
as the writer of The Human Side and reports on happenings in Fondis. Few know that he also heads up Mother Mary Ministries, a nonprofit corporation that promotes prayer.
Kuntz first produced and distributed over 31,000 Rosary tapes and 9,000 booklets through his Castle Rock Knights of Columbus council. Now, working through MMM, he has stepped out in faith to give rosaries, CDs, and "How to Pray the Rosary" cards to soldiers and airmen deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan.
Kuntz told us, "We are initially calling the project Rosaries For Troops. Mother Mary Ministries provides the CDs, letters, and information, while my K.C. council provides the rosary beads and 'How to Pray the Rosary' cards. We supply local families with beads, wire, and string, and they assemble the rosaries by hand."
"In the past, we sent thousands of rosaries to India, and the letters we received back were extremely touching. Now we are hoping to provide some peace to our troops who are in an incredibly stressful and challenging environment. I envision soldiers gathering around a CD player and crucifix to quietly pray together, even if for just 20 minutes. Meditation has proven to bring peace and calm to both soul and body, and God only knows how peace-less and dangerous their situation is over there," said Kuntz. "Not only that, but their death could be as close as the next roadside bomb. Under those circumstances, I would want to stay as close to God as possible. My heart goes out to these brave men and women."
When producing the first project, "The Knights of Columbus Rosary," Kuntz was led to give the tapes away and accept whatever people could afford to donate.
"That way everyone can have a tape, even if they cannot afford one. After all, the sick, the elderly, and the poor can be some of Our Lady's most powerful prayer warriors," said Kuntz.
Mother Mary Ministries has since produced another prayer aid called "Prayers For Peace," containing the new Luminous Mysteries, a Children's Rosary, and The Stations of the Cross, all with meditations, songs, and beautiful background music created by Mickie Davie.
It is available on both tape and CD. As with "Mother Mary's Rosary," MMM gives them away and accepts whatever people can afford to donate. Larger donations allow them to continue and expand their prayer promotion and "Rosaries for Troops" project.
Tapes and CDs can be ordered from: Mother Mary Ministries, 144 Dawson Drive; Castle Rock; CO, 80104.
Look for our letter to soldiers/airmen in your High Plains Rider.
