live BIG!
Contributed by: William Speights on 4/12/2007

Nicholas Speights died on July 4, 2006 just three weeks after his 7th birthday. He was struck by an automobile as he tried to cross the street in front of the family home during a block party in the Meadows Community of Castle Rock, Colorado.

Nicholas made an impact on an enormous number of people in the community. He was always moving and including others. He lived lifein a big way. Nicholas never cared where or what---just THAT we were doing something. Camping, skiing, swimming, cooking, cleaning, snorkeling, racquetball, plant tours, drag races, Elitch's, snowmobiling, sword fights, reading, talking, story telling, light sabers, biking, slip'n'slide, soccer---Nicholas lived big.

His energy was infectious and inspired much, including the creation of the Live BIG Fund ( www.livebigfund.org). The main purpose of the Live BIG Fund is to provide meaningful additions to the community in a way that inspired Nicholas Speights. This means providing for outdoor activity opportunities or supporting outdoor opportunities for youths and young adults in our greater community.

The first specific objective and purpose of this corporation shall be to raise money to renovate a building at the Tahosa Boy Scout Camp in Boulder County, Colorado. The intent of this renovation is to create a Visitor's Check-in Center and Main Administration Facility for the Boy Scout camp along with the necessary equipment to operate the facility. The secondary purpose is to create an endowment fund to ensure the upkeep and maintenance of the building after renovation.

What a perfect legacy for Nicholas!! He loved the Scouts and loved the outdoors. How appropriate that his spirit should continue to live in this project so that other young boys will have the opportunity to LIVE BIG for years to come!

A great boy who lives big in our memories. He had a love of the outdoors, camping, and Scouts second to none. To share this love with such a great program--Scouting--in a way that will benefit so many boys and their leaders for years to come is an honorable objective.
