"Suitest" fan of all
Contributed by: Brian Boudreau on 8/13/2007

Every March I get pumped for another Rockies season and say, "this is the year we go back to the playoffs," and every year my heart breaks.

I'm 23 years old and have been a super fan since the Rockies were conceived in 1993. Posters, trading cards, jerseys, I had it all. My parents bought season ticketsand the 6 games that I got to see every year were some of the most joyous. Win or lose, I took in the experience. Not many 9-year-olds say they love anything, but I LOVED the Rockies!

Many say they rooted for the Rockies through 1995, after we won the Wild Card, but ever since, our numbers have steadily declined.

Unfortunately, my family had to give up our tickets because we relocated to LA in 1994, but my love of the Rockies never waivered. Every time the Rockies visited the Dodgers, I bargained and begged my dad to take us to Chavez Ravine. Lucky for me, my dad caved in.

In 1997, we relocated back to Colorado and I could think of nothing more I wanted more than to see Coors Field for the 1st time. I heard how wonderous the stadium was but had to see it for myself.

I was not dissapointed. I was dissapointed with the number of fans filling the seats.

Other than opening day or fireworks, the stadium had tons of empty seats. I thought back to Old Mile High and being surprised to see an empty seat anywhere.

I couldn't believe it when I saw Infield Box seats empty every homestand. I went to as many games as possible but with all the baseball I was playing myself, I rarely had free time. However, I always checked the box scores as I watched our record slip closer to mediocrity.

1997 came and went as fans watched the other expansion team of 1993, the Florida Marlins, win their 1st World Series. They've since won another and the Rockies have barelywhiffed at a chance to make the playoffs.

The Rockies threw away an opportunity to have the greatest fans of any city. Denver fans go to bat for you, but they expect some winning in return.

We're spoiled with great franchies in the Denver Broncos and Colorado Avalanche, but it takesa true fan to show up when the only thing we've gotten in return is a playoff sweep in the only year we went.

I can't say it any clearer, I love the Rockies. I record every game, and win or lose, I watch and think about what could be.

I feel like I know what Drew Goodman and George Frazier are going to say before they even say it. That's how much I watch the broadcasts.

I have never experienced what it would be like to watch the game from a suite, but you couldn't pick a more dedicated fan that would soak up every minute of it.

I truly am the "suitest" fan of all.
