Restaurants that continue to please in Castle Rock
Contributed by: phoebe rinaldi on 10/14/2007

I consider myself a foodie. I am a decent chef and am delighted when I can go to a restaurant for food that is better than what I can do at home (this does not happen that often).

First, my fab-fave is Brannigan's Irish Pub on Wilcox. I have been there multiple times with my family and everything we order is great. They have great gravy. Have a pastie or fish and chips with a Harp ale.

The corned beef on a rueben or salad is moist and tasty. I usually eat in the bar area as it is a pub and one must do things the English/Irish way. This is a restaurant I model my English/Irishcuisine after, although I have not figured out the gravy quite yet. Rating :A.

My second pick is The Old Stone Church. Their twist on carnitas is first rate. Again, I have not had a dish here I do not like. I find the tables a little cramped, however it is nice to eat on the patio in the summer. The atmosphere is a little stuffy inside. Rating : B

My third pick is Sapporo the Japanese sushi restaurant on Wilcox. Have the crunchy lobster roll. Yum yum. I am a fan of unagi, but there it is only passable. I would suggest staying with the rolls as the single sushi does not quite measure up. They do a great job with tempura rolls and crunchy rolls. Rating: B-

My last entry on this posting is the Castle Rock Cafe. I personally do not like to fry chicken because the grease goes everywhere and they do a great job. They also have a fabulous pot roast. The chicken gravy could have more flavor but I am not complaining; it is more than passable. Rating: B-

Restaurants I find only OK - Yolandas,Rodney's (Castle Pines), 3Magaritas, and Outback Steakhouse. Rating: C to C-

Don't go - Dulce Vida (Castle Pines). The sauces are generic and used in dishes they shouldn't be like the linguini and clams. They have some crazy singer who tries to be Celine Dion and annoys you the entire meal.

Totally sub par for a $140 meal for two people with wine. Rating: D-

Next post - Palmer Lake and Monument restaurants

I don't know what qualifies you as a restaurant critic, other than your fondness for gravy and your inability to form a complete sentence that is close to being grammatically correct. However, if you must submit restaurant reviews, knowing the name of the restaurant would be a good place to start. Once you have conquered that hurdle, you might want to try a fascinating tool available on most PC's designed after 1974. It's called spell check. For future reference, the sauces at LA DOLCE VITA are all made from scratch. While linguine and clam sauce probably wouldn't impress a sophisticated, brown gravy loving palate such as your own, it is viewed by many as an acceptable culinary combination. In closing, Ms. Rinaldi, may I suggest you don't quit your day job just yet. I don't think the literary world is quite ready for you. Yum yum.

I ate at the Old Stone Church back in February, and I must say, the food there was divine! :-)
