Yet another doll girls shouldn't emulate
Contributed by: Anthonette Klinkerman on 11/25/2007

Blowfish lips, giant heads and enormous cat-eyes aside, the fashions are enough to send any mother into shock. Bratz dolls not only look ridiculous, but now they appear to be promoting alcohol.

Flipping through the Sunday ads, I found the breathless announcement that Bratz items would be in the stores Tuesday. If I have my way, one of the items will NOT be available.

This would be the Movie Starz Bus. "Includes lounge, loft, accessories, and more!" touts the ad. Those accessories include what looks frighteningly like tiny cocktail glasses and a miniature blender atop of what can be called nothing else but a fold-down bar. Swell.

The dolls stand in dresses split up to the thigh, perilously high heels, and with gloved hands poised on hips. "Ages 6 and up." I had to stop and read that again. I have not seen many six year olds lately, so I'm not entirely sure this product is popular, but you know with a movie release anything goes.

Prompted by Barbara Neff's successful crusade to get a drinking game off the shelves of a local retailer, a call was put in to ToysRUs. The representative said, "Those are sundae glasses."

Uh... Look closer. Clearly those are martini glasses, champagne flutes, and a carafe next to the blender containing some pink concoction. I was waiting for the rep to say that was a smoothie, but it never came.

"Oh," she said. "I can see what you mean."

So a formal complaint was logged. We'll see what the company has to say about this, I guess come Tuesday. In the meantime, do yourself and your little girl a life-long image favor and keep on walking right past that aisle.

The headline on that page reads, "We've got more of what girls adore!" More like "What moms abhor" if you ask me.

I'm getting in touch with you immediately! I did get a call from ToysRUs, and I had a sinking feeling the complaint was just going to die somewhere in voicemail-land.
