Dear Editor:
I was dismayed to see three huge pictures of fundamentalist Christians and exhuberant wording supporting Evangelical Christianity on the front page of our Hub paper this week (Castle Rock area). The wording of the picture captions was nauseating ("excites young people about God";Vacation Bible School is fun and spiritual" ad nauseum). Why this was considered a worthy "news" story for a (I hope) diverse audience is beyond me. Several articles throughout just seemed like another attempt to force extremist religious viewpoints on a passive, captive audience. Please leave church news to the churches, and use this community newspaper as a medium for a true American audience, which is culturally diverse and interested in community affairs, not fundamentalist circus-like rah-rah religious revivals. Respect your audience and stop assuming that all of your readers are of this ilk. We're not, and you will lose readership because of this exclusionary and discriminatory approach to non-journalism.
Editor's Note: At YourHub.com, we believe showing the diversity of a community is important, and that includes news and opinions of a religious nature. We encourage all community members to post stories and photos about what is important in their lives -- whether it is family, club, government, recreation, work, school or religious activities.
