Council Membership should be a position that is earned and
warranted by an individual's commitment and involvement in Town
issues and activities. I have often stated and feel election, as a
Council Member, should be recognition of one's prior Town
experiences and involvement, not given lightly. As a member of the
governing body with legislative powers and functions that affect
every Castle Rock resident's quality of life, the creditability,
integrity and experience of a candidate must be the foundation of
electing that individual to fill a seat on the Council.
I have the opportunity of knowing each of the candidates
running for election to the District #1 position. While each is a
fine person, it is my opinion that
Katie Kruger warrants your vote.
Katie has been intimately involved in current Town issues for
a number of years, having attended numerous Council hearings, study
sessions and been an active member of several ad hoc committees.
She has made the commitment to be involved and learn the issues
facing the Town and its citizens that gives her a running start to
take on her responsibilities as a Council Member. As a current
member of the Public Works Commission and Director on the CATCO
Board, she has developed insights into transportation/transit
issues few possess.
I have not always agreed with Katie's position on certain
issues, but I respect her advocacy and willingness to speak out in
support of her positions, informing the Council on matters debated
before us. As I examine the two candidates I feel Katie will bring
a new perspective and the knowledge gained over the years of
involvement with the Town that is not readily apparent by her
opponent. Clearly Katie has the stewardship and experience that
deserves your vote.
