Castle Rock resident
Travis Schenk has landed what many would consider a dream job.
The Town of Castle Rock has hired Schenk as the new General Manager for Red Hawk Ridge Golf Course. Born and raised in Watonga, Okla., Schenk has a bachelor of science degree in biology with a minor in chemistry from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. His original plan was to go to medical school, but wound up launching a career in golf after taking a job washing carts and picking the range to earn free golf privileges.
Schenk relocated to Colorado when he was promoted to regional manager of four Denver-area golf courses managed by his previous employer, American Golf Corporation in Dallas, Texas. He managed Arrowhead, Thorncreek, Applewood and Park Hill courses during his 10-year tenure with the company.
He looked to manage Red Hawk both to give him more time with his family and to focus his energy and skills on one course. "Red Hawk is unique because it has multiple 'signature holes," Schenk said. "Red Hawk's niche is to be the best municipal golf experience in Colorado. Most municipal properties don't have the layout or course conditions to command rates near the top of the market."
Schenk also touted Red Hawk's value among municipal courses, saying, "Red Hawk provides a wonderful golf experience to players of all skill levels for an affordable price. When you compare other public courses in the area, Red Hawk is by far the best bang for your buck."
Schenk and his wife,
Alicia, and two children, live in the Meadows, offering a quick commute to Red Hawk. Besides golf, Schenk's other hobbies include spending time chasing his 2-year-old daughter and 1-year-old son, yard work, running and watching the History Channel.
Town-owned and operated Red Hawk Ridge, 2156 Red Hawk Ridge Dr. was designed by award-winning golf course architect,
Jim Engh. The 6,942-yard layout combines playability with spectacular Front Range mountain scenery. Five sets of tees welcome golfers of all experience and skill levels to enjoy a course with risk/reward opportunities, through extensive mounding, strategically placed bunkers and green-side lakes.
