he Monument Roller Mamas Are Ready to Rumble, Are You?

The Monument Roller Mamas are a diverse group of local women who make up one of the newest women's flat track roller derby leagues in Colorado. The Monument Roller Mamas are preparing for their first bout in spring 2009 and are still accepting new recruits or "babies" as they like to call them.If you love fishnets and knee-highs and need to release some aggression, roller derby is the perfect sport for you.

What does it take to become an MRM baby?It takes minimal skating skills, the desire to learn, health insurance and the proper protective equipment. They will teach you the rest.Unlike roller derby of the past, today's roller derby utilizes legal hitting and blocking techniques, instead of cheap shots. The Roller Mamas emphasize safe skating techniques, proper hitting and falling and overall strategy.

The Monument Roller Mamas currently practice in Monument at Colorado Sports Center and in Castle Rock at Metzler Skate Park.Whether you are a stay-at-home mom, Air Force wife, hairstylist or a young single woman, roller derby might just be what you've been looking for.For more information, visit www.myspace.com/monumentderbyor call Moxie Cotton at (719) 306-9275.If roller derby is not for you, the Roller Mamas have various other volunteer opportunities.Contact them for more information.Get ready to rumble because these are the meanest mamas in town!
