Contributed by: Joseph Kirchmer/YourHub.com on 6/4/2007

Congratulations to Larkspur's Trevor Waliszweski who finished first in the 3,200 meter race at the 3A state championship held in Pueblo on May 18 and 19.

Waliszweski, 16, is a junior at Classical Academy, a charter school in northern Colorado Springs. He finished the race with a time of 9:48.7, a little under two seconds in front of the next closest runner.

The Larkspur teen, who also competed in the 4 x 800 relay, said he's been training for the race since early January.

"It was a great feeling," he said of finishing first. "I just thanked God that he gave me a good race and I'm appreciative of my teammates, my coaches and my parents for all the support they've given me."

Waliszweski said he hopes to compete one day at the college level and is interested in attending the University of Colorado, University of Portland or Notre Dame.

Way to go Trevor!
