High school fall baseball open to area athletes
Contributed by: Debbie Santy of Double Angel Foundation on 7/18/2007

Youth baseball is no longer just a summer sport. Parker is one of the few communities in the area to offer a competitive fall baseball program, so that athletes can continue to play the game they love.

The deadline to register for the 2007 season, which runs from August through October, is August 3rd. The league is run by Parker Youth Sports but open to players from throughout the Denver area.

Register at www.parkeryouthsports.com, clicking the Fall Ball Registration link on the Home Page.

New to the fall program this year is a 15-16 year old division, with the opportunity for 14 year olds to play up. This division will take place exclusively at the Double Angel Ballpark and is being run in partnership by Parker Youth Sports and Double Angel Foundation, the non-profit organization which built and operates the ballpark.

All proceeds of this division will be put directly back into maintenance and upgrades at the Double Angel Ballpark.

"This is the first year we've been able to offer a division with 90' bases for older players," said Sally Serena, Administrator of Parker Youth Sports, "and we are thrilled to not only be using the Double Angel fields, but partnering with them in running the league for that age group to benefit this special facility in Parker." Serena hopes to have a large number of teams and players in this age group register.

"We hope players from all over the area will consider this alternative to the more expensive and time-consuming travel teams, yet continue playing their sport into the fall," Serena said.

Double Angel Foundation plans that this will become an annual program offering which will grow through the years to offer more youth the chance to play at this ballpark built entirely through donations following the death of two baseball-loving Parker boys from drowning following exposure to carbon monoxide in a boat.

Tony Collins, a Double Angel Foundation Board Member helping to coordinate the league, explained that the cost for the league is kept reasonable, yet will still help defray some of the operating costs of the park.

The cost is $150 for residents and $160 for non-residents, and includes an 8 game plus play-offs and practices schedule, along with insurance, awards and basic team equipment. Volunteer coaches are needed.
