Castle View High School baseball team won one of the most memorable games of their season on Friday, April 18th at Coors Field in downtown Denver.
They played Evergreen High School 4A Varsity team for a closely matched game, with Castle View coming out on top, 7-6.
What made this afternoon so memorable was not only playing on a major league field, but because every player on the Castle View team contributed to the team's success throughout the game. There was consistent pitching, key hits, strong defensive plays and aggressive base running.
The seventh inning started with a tied ball game of 4-4. Evergreen High School hit two runs off of the closing pitcher-catcher duo, Nate and Ben Story. Leading off in the bottom of the seventh, Joe Ferris (junior) hit one up the center for a single.
Two outs followed with fly balls to the outfield. That's when the cheering crowd of friends and relatives broke out the rally flags. Ben Story (freshman) hit a line drive for another single, followed by another single by Sean Renton (sophomore).
With the crowd on their feet and the bases loaded, Nate Story (Junior) nailed one out close to the wall, for a standing triple - and a huge win for the team!!
It was a "Story" book ending to a perfect afternoon for baseball that brought high fives to the Castle View parents, administration, family and friends. The team would like to thank all the supporters of the team that purchased Rockies' tickets in order to for the team to have the opportunity to play at Coors' field and to support their fundraising efforts to purchase a scoreboard this summer for the school' s field!
