Ladies tennis group starts up in Castle Rock
Contributed by: Erin Feese/YourHub.com on 8/8/2008

After a 15-year hiatus, Castle Rock resident Heather Marks recently got back in the swing of tennis. After playing throughout high school and college, she said she stopped because she couldn't find any other women to play with.

Marks has played with a mixed doubles group throughout the summer, but was inspired by the thought of a laid-back ladies' group for tennis enthusiasts in the area.

So Marks, along with friend Darlene Jeffery, decided to organize their own group.

"We thought, there must be other ladies out there who want to play with other ladies," Marks said.

She added that she noticed some women were intimidated by the ability of some of the members of the mixed doubles group at that meets at Castle View High School. The ladies' group provides a relaxed atmosphere for women to work on their skills and exercise, Marks said.

"We just want to have fun, meet friends and get a good workout," she said.

The ladies doubles group plays from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays at the tennis courts Butterfield Park, 3952 W. Butterfield Crossing in The Meadows. The drop-in fee is $2 to cover court rental costs.

Marks said she hopes the group will play through October. Once the new tennis courts are finished at the new Clear Sky Elementary School, the group may start playing there or at Douglas County High School, she said.

"Once you get into it, tennis is slightly addictive," Marks said.

For more information about the group, call Heather Marks at 303-660-1220.
