Have you ever wondered who lives in the slate blue tri-level around the corner or in the apartment across the courtyard with that cute chihuahua named Chaz? It could be a Castle Rock 'n' Roller! Roller Derby has invaded Castle Rock and a league of 20 plus short-skirted, fishnetted, quad-skating women are introducing flat track roller derby to Douglas County. Their debut bout will be held on Friday, June 12, 2009 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds Events Center. Check out their
website for ticket details and season schedule.
In the meantime get to know your roller derby neighbor and be sure to tell her to "keep rockin'" when you see her in Safeway.
Derby Name:NcLovin'
Derby Number:IOU
Derby Position:Blocker
Derby Hub:A Texas girl that found her way to Castle Rock
How did you heard about the Castle Rock 'n' Rollers and what made you join?
Well there are many teams here in Denver and I would drag my hubby to a bout here and there. One day my in-laws called and said to look at the Castle Rock paper,I did and The "Castle Rock N Rollers" were on the front page. I called that day and they were still in need of girls,I went that night and have been hooked every since!
If you have a derby name how did you get it or what does it mean to you?
Well My daughter is my biggest fan and I had to pick something she could Yell at the top of her lungs during our bouts,I prolly had 10 names to narrow down and after watching Superbad one night she said "Mom whatta bout"NcLovin". I wanted my derby name to have my name in it and it was perfect. So to say the least my daughter picked out my name!!!
What is your worst roller derby injury thus far?
So far,eh I guess I have been very lucky to not have gotten really hurt (knock on wood). My wrist guards that are supposeta protect me are bruising my wrists, which isnt good since i need them to fall on!!!! I'll keep you posted!!!!
What are your two favorite things about derby?
The insane workout that ourfantastic coach puts us though, which has improved my body and a$$, that no gym couldhave ever done. Once you think "I can't possibly go on" someone encourages youand yells "You can dew it" , "you've got this" and pushes you that extra mile. I love my team. They are a group of real everyday women and I am so proud to be a part of it!!!
What is your theme song?
Ihave never really thought about it but i would say..."Joan Jett - Bad Reputation"
"Oh No, Not Me"
"Oh No, Not Me"
Where do you see the sport of Roller Derby in five years?
Hopefully in homes across the Nation like it was in the 70's When my Papa would watch it.
What would you tell someone who doesn't know about derby to get them to come to a bout?
It's a full contact sport which consists of women knocking the crap out of the other, while wearing short sexy tight clothing. Very crowd pleasing and interactive!!! We even have a half time show!!!! So if you haven't caught on to the new trend get your butt down to Castle Rock and check us out!!!!
