Have you ever wondered who lives in the slate blue tri-level around the corner or in the apartment across the courtyard with that cute chihuahua named Chaz? It could be a Castle Rock 'n' Roller! Roller Derby has invaded Castle Rock and a league of 20 plus short-skirted, fishnetted, quad-skating women are introducing flat track roller derby to Douglas County. Their debut bout will be held on Friday, June 12, 2009 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds Events Center. Check out their
website for ticket details and season schedule.
In the meantime get to know your roller derby neighbor and be sure to tell her to "keep rockin'" when you see her in Safeway.
Derby Name:L'NO LowKO
Derby Number:86'd
Derby Position:Pivot/Blocker
Derby Hub:Castle Rock
How did you heard about the Castle Rock 'n' Rollers and what made you join?
I met a girl who played in Fort Collins and she told me about Castle Rock trying to form a team and sent me info and an email address and the rest is history!
If you have a derby name how did you get it or what does it mean to you?
Anyone who skates with me knows I love to hit (Knock girls Out) and I'm a little
crazy (loco may be the word) on the rink, hence LowKO was born. I also tend to talk out loud when bouting or running drills and the most common phrase that comes out of my mouth is the explicit version of L'No (Hell No) so I made it PG.
What is your worst roller derby injury thus far?
My toe turning into one big blister from all the fun we've had on toe stops!
What are your two favorite things about derby?
All the amazing women I have had the privilege to meet and skate with on CRR and other leagues. How excited and encouraging the community has been to have us and see us succeed!
What is your theme song?
Ludacris "Move *****, (Get Out The Way)"
Where do you see the sport of Roller Derby in five years?
In every city in the US in many forms, professional, amateur, etc, with a huge fan base and multitude of skaters!
What would you tell someone who doesn't know about derby to get them to come to a bout?
Derby is one of those addictions that you don't' realize you have until you come to your first bout. At that time you will
realize it is not only amazing to watch and unbelievably entertaining, but that you want to be a part of it anyway you can, either as a spectator, skater, ref, volunteer, etc. You will be unable to get enough of it! There is no support group to get rid of this addiction, instead only a growing fan base across the country that is catching the bug and you definitely need to be a part of it!!!
