According to people fueling their vehicles in Castle Rock the morning of Dec. 27, the Holiday 2006 Blizzard wasn't too big a deal.
"We are very impressed with snow removal on Interstate 70," said
Suellen Shea, of California. She said she and her husband
John came to Castle Rock to visit their children and grandchildren before the storm and that this was their first White Christmas in more than 30 years.
Suellen said she was also impressed with the courtesy of other drivers and that she and John were hoping to avoid the next snow storm by heading south a bit before returning to California in their car Dec. 27.
Mark Forsythe, who lives in The Meadows and works in the Denver Tech Center, said he wasn't snowed in, but he worked from home. He said he has family in Aurora and Colorado Springs who were snowed in, too.
"I was prepared. I had food and water and gasoline -- ready to go for two weeks if I had to," he said.
He said he felt a little cabin fever and might get himself a few more DVDs to keep him occupied instead of just working on his laptop. "Let's hope this storm's on the low end," he said.
Eric Malinksi lives and works in Castle Rock and said that the snow didn't really bother him, "but I'm from Minnesota."
He headed to the mountains on Dec. 21 with his wife and two young children and said the kids really loved it because they heard that such snow storms were what their father grew up with. To prepare for the storm, he made sure the cars were in the garage.
"Honestly, I didn't think it was that big a deal," he said.
He has lived five years in Castle Rock and said that the March 2003 storm was more difficult than this year's because it caused them to lose trees at their house.
