Yoga Participants Bask in Sensory Park

August 7, 2009, Highlands Ranch, CO - The mind/body gardens at Civic Green Park stimulate Free Yoga in the Park participants in more ways than one. Every Wednesday and Saturday, almost 100 yogis (men) and yoginis (women) partake in an inspiring one-hour yoga practice and then have the opportunity to journey through the rest of the body's senses.

Civic Green Park incorporates some amazing ways to tap into inspiration through the senses and find a moment for reflection. Five unusual and beautiful finger labyrinths are spaced throughout the gardens allowing visitors to trace a path in the designs with twists and turns using a "walking" finger. Smaller versions of garden labyrinths cut into stone, the finger labyrinths provide a sensory path intended for mental focus. This touch and feel experience helps to remind us that life is a series of twists and turns but ultimately we will discover the path to a more balanced well being.

Perhaps more noticeable than the finger labyrinths is the "sound stone". The sound stone is made from a large boulder, with a hole carved into the top portion. "One of the seed sounds of yoga is "OM". Chanting "OM" inside this stone provides a sensory experience like no other, as the sound reverberates back into you," said Nancy Levenson, Founder of NamasteWorks Yoga + Wellness, LLC, and a certified yoga instructor who guides the Yoga in the Park practice.

"The pebble reflexology walkway provides another tactile experience for your feet and hands and helps improve physical function and blood flow," said Carolyn Peters, Recreation Manager for the Highlands Ranch Metro Districts.

The Civic Green Park gardens themselves are also designed to touch the senses; with roses, lavender, pollinating plants, butterfly bushes and other plants to smell, touch and view. Water features throughout the park also contribute to creating a haven of peace.

Civic Green Park is the ideal place to experience all the body's senses from Free Yoga in the Park to the vast sensory gardens. The ever popular Free Yoga in the Park continues, for those 18 and older, every Wednesday and Saturday morning from 8:15-9:15 a.m. until August 19th. The location is Civic Green Park in Highlands Ranch, near the main Library. For more information on Yoga in the Park, visit http://www.namasteworksyoga.com.
