Got pools?

Castle Rock is out of lane space!! Wanna do laps? Sorry, no room. Want to take swimming lessons? Well, maybe, if you get picked in the lottery... Want your child to take a conditioning class for the summer team? Oops, it is full already.

Right now Castle Rock's competitive swim team has a waiting list of over 35 kids. It would be longer but some of the Castle Rock kids simply join teams in other neighborhoods because we have no room on the neighborhood team. We currently rent lane space from the Castle Rock Recreation Center and as much as they would love for us to rent more lanes (we would love to!!) and pay them more, there are no more lanes to rent. They are maxxed out. The Rec Center sponsors a summer swim team, the Cruisers, which this year had 230 swimmers. The Castle Pines North Crocs, another summer team had close to 200 swimmers and a second team, the Storm started in their neighborhood because of the huge interest. Believe it or not, there is also a summer team in Castle Pines Village with approximately 150 kids.

Castle Rock Recreation Center is also the home for Master's Swimming, the Douglas County High School girls and boys swim team and the Castle View High School girls swim team.

If you build it, they will come... Seems they are already here.

This is a mounting problem for Douglas County. While indoor pools are difficult to operate at profit, they add so much to the quality of life in a community and are used by every age group. The issue is compounded by the fact that DCSD does not build any pools in their high schools, so their teams have to fish around for pool space as well. The Castle Pines North community has expressed a desire to build a rec center, but it will take some serious help and commitment from other swim groups and communities to help that become a reality.
